Buhari Sends Message To Mbaka & Oyedepo, PDP Charges ICPC To Track Down Kumo

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked religious leaders of all faiths like Father Ejike Mbaka, David Oyedepo amongst others to unite and support the fight against terrorism.

Buhari made the call in a statement titled ‘President Buhari urges spiritual leaders to mobilise people of all faiths to fight crimes.’

According to his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President made this call while speaking on the telephone with the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar lll.

Buhari called on religious leaders to help fight against kidnapping, banditry, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the statement, the Sultan was said to have called to celebrate with the President on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and the observance of the Eid-el-Fitr.

The statement read in part, “The President called for continuous dialogue between the leaders of the two major faiths for peace and stability to reign in the country.

PDP Charges ICPC To Track Down Kumo.

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has said the revelation of $65 million (N31billion) fraud in a bank name (Witheld), in which President Muhammadu Buhari’s son in-law, Gimba Yau Kumo, is reportedly involved, is a confirmation that the Buhari Presidency is “a sanctuary for fraudsters, treasury looters and common criminals.

This is as the party charged the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission ICPC “not to succumb to reported pressure from the cabal in the Buhari Presidency but to track down Yau Kumo, the former Managing Director of the bank, who had already been declared wanted, and bring him to book alongside his accomplices.”

NAF Kills Bandits, Destroys Camps In Kaduna.

The Kaduna State government on Friday said the air component of Operation Thunder Strike conducted a series of aerial missions across several locations in the state.

Samuel Aruwan, the commissioner for internal security and home affairs, said in a statement that many armed bandits were neutralised as several of their camps were destroyed during the operation.

Aruwan said the air operations which included air interdiction, armed reconnaissance and patrols would be sustained over the coming days over Kaduna metropolis and other areas in the state.

Aruwan said major highways including the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari, Kaduna-Abuja, Kaduna-Zaria, Kaduna-Kachia and Kaduna-Afaka roads would also be covered.

The statement said according to operational feedbacks from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to the state government, armed reconnaissance was conducted over Erena, Kusasu, Kuduru, Kulefe, Kusherki and Shiroro in neighboring Niger State as well as Chikun and environs in Chikun local government area

FG must take urgent steps to address rapid population growth – Health Minister, Osagie Ehanire.

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, has called for urgent steps to stop Nigeria’s rapid population growth rate at 3.2 per cent per annum.

At a one-day progress update meeting of Women Integrated Services for Health (WISH), in Abuja, the minister called for a rapid increase in access to family planning and sexual and reproductive health services to stop the rapid population rate.

According to him, one of the strategies employed by the government for accelerating the progress towards the achievement of the modern Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (mCPR) target is the development of the Task-shifting/Task-sharing Policy which seeks to achieve a rational redistribution of clinical and other tasks among health care workers, according to their skills and trainability.

Governors have limited power to tackle insecurity, says Lalong.

Simon Lalong, governor of Plateau, says there are limits to what state governors can do about insecurity in the countryHe lamented that governors don’t have full authority over the security operatives in their states.

Lalong spoke on Friday during the Good Morning Nigeria programme on Nigeria Television Authority (NTA).

He said even though the constitution makes the governors the chief security officers of their states, there is a limit to the orders they can give security personnel.

Lalong called on the national assembly to intervene, adding that the federal lawmakers have a role to play in ensuring that governors are empowered to tackle insecurity.

“We have also cried and said the constitution provides that we (the governors) are chief security officers in our state,” he said.

“But there are limits to what we can do, the command that we do.

If I am the general officer commanding, I should be the general officer commanding. Not the general officer that will command, and the person you command will say I need to get command from somewhere. All these are very important.”

Official: Lagos government has completed more than 1097 school projects

The Lagos State Government has completed more than 1,097 school projects covering 970 schools across the State, just as it has also ensured the upgrade and rehabilitation of 322 dilapidated public schools and the furnishing of Primary Schools with 87,000 dual composite unit of chairs and desks in two years.

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, disclosed this while representing the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the commissioning of the completed school infrastructure projects at Ogudu Junior Grammar School, Ogudu, on Friday.

According to him, the project being commissioned is in line with the ‘Education and Technology’ pillar of the present administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda, saying that “If we must actualise our Greater Lagos vision, quality education must remain one of our most solid building blocks.”
