About the Birth Registration

The birth registration is a joint effort of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the National Population Commission (NPC), and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The goal is to register 12.7 million births in 2023. They will give out birth certificates that have the child’s name and nationality. These certificates will be for every child in Nigeria who is under 5 years old. The plan is to cover 21 states, 456 local government areas (LGAs), and 4,978 wards all over the country.
