Pertinent Particulars of the INEC Election Timetable 2023

  • The INEC Election Timetable 2023 lays out the official schedule for the 2023 general election in Nigeria as sanctioned by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
  • The State Houses of Assembly Election is slated for the 11th of March 2023.
  • The Governorship Election is scheduled for the same day, the 11th of March 2023.
  • The House of Representatives Election and the Senatorial Election are slated for the 25th of February 2023.
  • The Presidential Election is also scheduled for the 25th of February 2023.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has declared that the Presidential and National Assembly elections will occur on February 25, 2023, while the governorship and State Assembly elections will take place on March 11, 2023.

Procedure for Voting in the 2023 General Election

The official INEC Voting Procedure 2023 outlines the steps to be taken in order to vote in the upcoming 2023 General Election.
The procedure, as released via the Commission’s verified Twitter handle, involves the following steps:

  • Voting commences at 8:30 a.m.
  • Presentation of Permanent Voter Cards for accreditation through BVAS.
  • Verification of voter’s name on the voters register at the polling unit.
  • Authentication via BVAS through the use of fingerprints or facial recognition.
  • Issuance of a ballot paper after accreditation.
  • Casting of vote in secret within the voting cubicle and depositing the marked ballot paper into the ballot box.
  • Option to observe the sorting and counting of votes from a distance of 300 meters from the voting area.

The INEC statement indicated that voters have the option to leave or remain within 300 meters of the voting area to witness the sorting and counting of votes.
