ABUJA, April 10, 2025 — The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, said the Federal Government will soon launch an e-visa system and digital landing/exit cards. He said this will help keep Nigeria more secure.
Keyamo shared this news on Wednesday in Abuja when he met with a group led by the Minister of Interior, Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The Minister said the e-visa system will let people apply for visas online. They can also upload all the needed documents on the internet.
He added that the old paper landing and exit cards people fill out when entering or leaving Nigeria will now be digital. Visitors will need to put their information online before traveling to Nigeria.
Keyamo said, “What we are doing today shows this government wants ministries to work together. This meeting is an example of that. We are talking about the e-visa system today.”
He said the Minister of Interior, Tunji-Ojo, will give more details later. He also said agencies like Immigration, NCAA, and FAAN will fully support this plan. Keyamo made it clear that no one is against this program, even though it is mostly under the Interior Ministry.
The Minister of Interior, Tunji-Ojo, said this new system will start on May 1. He explained that the e-visa application will be free. It will make entering Nigeria easier while still keeping the country safe.
Tunji-Ojo said the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will handle the landing and exit cards. Travelers will fill them out online before boarding a plane to Nigeria.
He said, “The NCAA’s job is to give rules to airlines and make sure they follow them.”
The Interior Minister also said there is already a central visa approval centre at immigration headquarters. Trained officers are there, and they check criminal records from around the world.
“We will do better checks on people coming to Nigeria. We want to remove delays and make the visa process clear. Our plan is to open Nigeria’s borders but keep security strong. The Aviation and Interior ministries are both very important for this,” Tunji-Ojo said.
This new e-visa and digital card plan shows how Nigeria wants to make travel simple but still protect the country. People are waiting to see how it will work when it starts next month.
