Why is it important to keep track of dividends?
Knowing about dividends helps you understand who is eligible to receive them, when they will be approved and paid. Dividend payments also impact stock prices.
Here’s a Glossary to Help You
Date announced – The date when a company announced their dividends, which is shown on the website of the Stock Exchange.
Dividend during the year – Refers to all the dividends a company has given out in a single year.
Total dividends – A combination of interim dividends (given earlier in the year) and final dividends (announced after the full-year annual report is published in Q1 of the year).
Qualification date – Shareholders who own shares on this date will get dividends. If you want to receive dividends, make sure you buy shares at least 3 days before this date. Shares get transferred to you based on the T+3 rule (the date you bought plus 3 working days).
Payment date – This is when you will receive the dividends, either by post (dividend warrants) or directly to your bank account (e-dividend).
Closure of Register – Only shareholders who own shares listed in their register before this date will receive dividends.
