Nigerian Immigration Salary Structure 2023 and Ranks & New Recruitment

The salary structure of the Nigeria Immigration Service is almost similar to other FG agencies like Nigeria Civil Defense Corps, police and customs service.

It is important to note that the pay scale for individuals working in the NIS differs from that of the military branches such as the Navy, Air Force, and Army.

Comptroller General Immigration Service

The Comptroller General is the highest-ranking officer in the Nigeria Immigration Service, with only one person holding the position at a time. The appointment is made by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and is renewable for a period of four years based on the performance during the first tenure. This person is responsible for the overall management and operation of the immigration service.

Assistant Comptrollers General

The Deputy Comptroller General is the second highest rank in the Nigeria Immigration Service, typically held by officers who have proven their commitment as assistants to the Comptroller General. They lead the major divisions of the NIS and are responsible for reporting to the Comptroller General on the agency’s operations. The Deputy Comptroller General plays a key role in the management and smooth functioning of the Nigeria Immigration Service.

Superintendent of Immigration

The Assistant Comptroller is the third highest rank in the Nigeria Immigration Service, just below the Deputy Comptroller General. They are superior to the Superintendent of Immigration and are considered a senior officer within the agency. They play a vital role in the management and operations of the NIS, working closely with the higher-ranking officers to ensure smooth functioning of the agency.

Superintendent of Immigration

The Superintendent of Immigration is a high ranking position in the Nigeria Immigration Service, and comes under just below the Assistant Comptroller. It is the second lowest grade in the official immigration cadre, above the Assistant Superintendent of Immigration. They play a vital role in the management of the agency, working closely with higher-ranking officers to ensure the smooth functioning of the NIS.

Assistant Superintendent of Immigration

This is the lowest rank of officer in the service where graduates are recruited. All service officers start at this level and make their way.

Senior Inspector of Immigration

It is the highest non-commissioned rank of the Nigeria Immigration Service. In addition, it is the highest grade that enlisted service personnel can reach. All non-commissioned officer retire at this rank or before they reach it.

Assistant Inspector of Immigration

This is the second highest rank not commissioned in the service and the third lowest of all ranks. Staff with this rank are under the Assistant Inspectors.

Immigration Assistant

This is the second lowest level of Immigration Service. It is superior to the lowest rank but inferior to the other ranks. People of lower rank are promoted to this rank after fulfilling the conditions of promotion.

Passport Officers

This is the lowest level of Immigration. Non-commissioned personnel are recruited to this degree and make their way into the ranks.

Nigeria Immigration Salary Structure

The Comptroller General salary of the Nigerian Immigration Service (highest rank in the service) earn up to an annual pay of ₦3 million while Passport officers starting salary can be as little as 30,000 Naira per month. The average salary a Immigration Service in Nigeria will earn as a graduate should at least be ₦150,000 per month with other attached benefits and bonuses.
