As we kick off the New Year 2023, it’s essential to mark the various public holidays that will be celebrated across Nigeria. The Ministry of Interior, through the federal government, has declared certain days as public holidays, which means that schools, businesses, banks, and government offices will be closed on these days. In keeping with this, Monday, January 2nd will be a public holiday in Nigeria as it marks the day after New Year’s Day. Keep these dates in mind as you plan your year ahead.

About Public Holidays

In Nigeria, public holidays are days designated by the government for the entire nation to celebrate or observe. These holidays are usually marked by the suspension of work, school, and other activities, and may be accompanied by various cultural or religious events or ceremonies. Some examples of public holidays in Nigeria include Independence Day, Labor Day, and Christmas. These holidays are established by federal or state law, and may vary from region to region in the country. As the New Year begins, it’s important to keep note of these holidays and plan accordingly.
