Canada Express Entry Myths to Avoid In 2023

Half the folks who move to Canada use the Express Entry program. It’s popular as it’s easy and quick. But, there are many myths around it. Let’s bust these myths one by one.

Myth 1: Anyone can apply

People see Canada as a top place to live. Express Entry is popular but not open to everyone. You can apply if you meet requirements of one of these programs:

  • The Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)
  • The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
  • The Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

Myth 2: Everyone gets permanent residency

Not everyone who applies gets residency. Express Entry is not a residency application. It uses factors like age, education, and job history to rank your profile. High ranking profiles get a chance to apply for residency.

Myth 3: Only way to get residency

Express Entry is not the only way to get residency. Other programs also exist. They include:

  • Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)
  • Family Sponsorship
  • Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)
  • Start-up Visa (SUV)
  • Quebec-Selected Skilled Workers
  • Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP)

Myth 4: Need a job offer

You don’t need a job offer for all Express Entry programs. But, a job offer can add points to your profile, helping your chances.

Myth 5: Language scores don’t matter

Language scores matter a lot. Passing an English or French test is required. Higher scores than the minimum can earn more points.

Myth 6: Can’t raise CRS score

You can raise your CRS score. You can add or edit info within a year of submitting your profile. Actions like retaking language tests or getting a job offer can boost your score.

Myth 7: Works like a lottery

Express Entry is not random. It uses your CRS score to decide if you get an invitation to apply for residency. The cut-off depends on the current pool of candidates.

Myth 8: Can’t change your profile

You can change your profile for a year after submitting it or until you get an invitation to apply. You need to update it if there are changes in your life or work.

Myth 9: Need an immigration consultant

You don’t need a consultant for Express Entry. But, a licensed consultant can make the process easier and reduce mistakes.

Myth 10: Only one application

You can submit an Express Entry profile again if you didn’t get an invitation. Try to improve your score before you apply again.

Conclusion

If you’re thinking about moving to Canada, understanding the Express Entry system is important. Be sure to learn as much as you can to increase your chances of success
